Donald Rallis, Ph.D.

Dr. Donald Rallis served on the faculty of the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, for 23 years. In January 2014, he joined AUPP as a Professor of Geography. Over the course of his career, he has written extensively for textbook publishers and has contributed to the Encyclopedia of World History.

Dr. Rallis is deeply committed to social justice and human dignity, and this commitment both guides who he is and how he teaches. He is a firm believer in blurring the boundaries between academic disciplines, inside the classroom and more broadly. He aims not just to teach geography, but to teach through the medium of geography.

Dr. Rallis is an avid traveler and has so far been lucky enough to visit over 60 countries around the world. As he travels, he shoots videos in which he tries to convey a sense of ordinary life in different parts of the world. He posts on his YouTube channel where, to his great surprise, they have so far been viewed over five million times. He has lived in Phnom Penh since 2013 with his partner and a variable number of cats (currently six.)
