American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) Alumnus TAING Bunhong has been awarded a Chevening Scholarship by the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to pursue a 1-year master’s degree program in Drafting Legislation, Regulation and Policy at School of Advanced Study, University of London.
Bunhong graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the American University of Phnom Penh in 2017.
Bunhong expressed his gratitude to the British government and its partners for the life-changing opportunity and said he is grateful to every person and institution that made it possible. “Standing with fellow Cheveners at the pre-departure reception, I thought of everyone who had encouraged and supported me, making my graduate study goals a reality,” he said. “In particular, I was reminded of when I received my scholarship from AUPP, where I received my undergraduate law degree, cultivating the skills and experiences that form the basis for today’s progress. Big thanks to my friends and professors, and the AUPP Family at large, whose joint efforts have created an environment where many Cambodian youth from all backgrounds can achieve a quality education.”
Bunhong stressed that besides encouragement and support from family and friends, he decided to apply for the program because of his interest in the United Kingdom and its legal systems; in particular, the parliamentary procedures involved the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU).
Bunhong also advised fellow students who wish to apply for the program to do well in class, while also developing their networking and leadership skills through learning and collaboration with others outside of class.
Chevening is the UK government’s international awards program aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. Chevening Scholarships offer a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.
